1. Information We Collect
A. Account & Profile Information
When you create an account on NikahOne, we collect information you voluntarily provide:
- Name & Gender
- Date of birth & Age
- Marital status & Height
- Religious sect and caste
- Location (city/state level only)
- Interests and personal preferences
- Annual income & employment status
- Profile description / bio
- Family-related details
- Phone number (for account verification)
B. Photos, Videos & Identity Verification
NikahOne allows users to upload and manage:
- Up to 6 profile photos
- Live video selfie for identity verification
- Government-issued ID (used strictly for verification, not stored permanently)
C. Messages & Chat Data
NikahOne uses End-to-End Encryption (E2EE). We cannot read, access, or store your messages or shared photos in decrypted form. Only the sender and the intended recipient can decrypt and view the content. We do not have access to your private encryption keys.
D. Automatically Collected Information
- Device model, OS version, and unique device identifiers
- App version and usage data (screens visited, features used)
- IP address (used for fraud prevention and security)
- Crash reports and performance data
- Push notification token (for sending notifications)
Background Data: We do NOT collect location, camera, or microphone data in the background. All data collection happens only while you are actively using the app.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Matchmaking: Suggesting compatible profiles based on your preferences and location
- Account Verification: Preventing fake or fraudulent accounts via ID and selfie checks
- Secure Communication: Enabling end-to-end encrypted messaging between matched users
- Push Notifications: Alerting you to new matches, messages, profile views, and app updates (requires POST_NOTIFICATIONS permission on Android 13+)
- Privacy Controls: Managing photo visibility and contact sharing requests
- Profile Visibility Management: Allowing users to pause or deactivate their profile
- Service Improvement: Analysing usage patterns to improve app features and performance
- Safety & Fraud Prevention: Detecting and preventing spam, fake profiles, and policy violations
- Legal Compliance: Meeting applicable laws, court orders, or regulatory requirements
3. Data Sharing & Third-Party Services
A. What We Share
We do not sell your personal data. We may share limited data with the following categories of third parties solely to operate the Service:

Profile Photo Privacy
- You can hide your profile photos at any time from Settings
- Other users must send a request to view your hidden photos
- You can approve, reject, or revoke photo view access at any time
Contact Information Privacy
- Only premium members can request your contact details
- Contact information is shared only after your explicit approval
- You can revoke shared contact access at any time
5. Profile Visibility & Match Completion Control
When your profile is paused/stopped:
- Your profile will not be shown to new users
- You will not receive new match or chat requests
- Existing chats remain accessible based on your settings
6. What We Do NOT Do
- No Selling Personal Data: We never sell your personal information to advertisers or third parties.
- No Chat Storage: Your messages are end-to-end encrypted. We do not store decrypted message content on our servers.
- No Background Location Tracking: We do not track your location when the app is closed or running in the background.
- No Unauthorised Sharing: We do not share your data with third parties without a lawful basis or your consent.
- No Spam: We only send communications you have opted into. Notifications can be disabled at any time.
- No Access to Private Keys: Your encryption private key is generated on your device. We never receive, store, or have access to it.
7. Security & Data Protection
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:
- End-to-end encryption (RSA-2048 + AES-256) for all messages
- HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data in transit
- Encrypted storage for sensitive account data at rest
- Device-only private key storage — never transmitted to our servers
- Regular security reviews and vulnerability assessments
- Strict access controls — only authorised staff can access backend systems
No method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
8. Your Rights & Controls
You have full control over your data:
- Access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you
- Update: Modify your profile information at any time from the app
- Delete: Permanently delete your account and all associated data (see Section 12)
- Privacy Settings: Control who can see your photos, location, and profile information
- Notification Preferences: Enable or disable push notifications from the app or your device settings
- Data Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format by emailing us
- Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent for optional data processing (e.g., analytics) at any time
9. App Permissions We Use
The following Android permissions are declared in our app. Optional permissions are only activated when you grant them. You can revoke any optional permission from your device Settings at any time.
android.permission.INTERNETCore app functionality — connecting to NikahOne servers for profile loading, matching, and messaging.
android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATIONCollected once during account creation to save your location on our backend for location-based matching. You can update your location anytime in your profile settings if you move to a different area or want matches from a new location.
android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATIONFallback for account creation and profile updates. Provides city/area level location data when precise location is unavailable. Used only when you create your account or update your location in profile settings.
android.permission.CAMERACapture profile photos, take a live video selfie for identity verification, and scan documents for account verification.
android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONSSend you push notifications for new match requests, messages, profile views, and app updates. You can disable this from your device settings at any time. Required on Android 13+.
We do not use any permissions to collect data in the background. All permission usage is strictly limited to foreground, in-app interactions initiated by you.

11. Data Retention
We retain your data only for as long as it is necessary to provide the Service or as required by law:
- Active accounts: Data is retained while your account is active
- Deleted accounts: Profile and personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days of account deletion
- Encrypted messages: Not stored on our servers in decrypted form. Your device-side encrypted backup is solely controlled by you and stored on your device
- Verification documents: Identity documents used for verification are deleted from our systems once verification is complete
- Legal hold: Certain data may be retained longer if required by applicable law or regulatory obligation
12. Account & Data Deletion
You have the right to permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time.
How to Delete Your Account:

Alternatively, email support@nikahone.com with the subject "Account Deletion Request".
Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. All profile data, match history, and server-side data will be permanently erased within 30 days.
13. Children's Privacy
NikahOne is intended for users aged 18 and above only. Our Service is a matrimony platform and is not directed at, marketed to, or designed for children under the age of 18.
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18
- During registration, users must confirm they are 18 or older
- If we become aware that a user under 18 has created an account, we will immediately suspend the account and delete all associated data
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, contact us at support@nikahone.com and we will promptly delete that information.
14. Legal Basis for Processing
Where applicable under GDPR, India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA 2023), or other applicable privacy laws, we process your personal data on the following legal bases:
- Contractual Necessity: To provide you the core Service under our Terms of Use (e.g., account creation, matchmaking, messaging)
- Consent: For optional features such as push notifications and analytics. Location data is mandatory at account creation to enable location-based matching on your home screen. You may withdraw consent for analytics and notifications at any time
- Legitimate Interests: For security, fraud prevention, and improving our Service, where such interests are not overridden by your rights
- Legal Obligation: To comply with applicable laws, court orders, or regulatory requirements
15. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
- Send an in-app notification or push notification alerting you to the update
- For significant changes, request fresh consent where required by law
Continued use of the Service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
